Questions about ECHO Multibeam Imaging Sonar

Hi,

I’m currently integrating the Sonoptix ECHO Multibeam Imaging Sonar into our system and have a few technical questions:

  1. Origin Reference: Could you please clarify the exact location of the origin point (reference center) of the sonar scanning plane? The attached demo image shows the scanning coverage, but it’s unclear where the coordinate origin is located physically on the device.
  2. Cable Length: The datasheet mentions three separate values:
  • 950 ±50 mm External
  • 120 ±20 mm Internal (data)
  • 125 ±20 mm Internal (power)Could you confirm what the total usable cable length is, or how these numbers should be interpreted in terms of actual installation length?
  1. WetLink Penetrator Model: I understand that the ECHO comes with a pre-installed WetLink Penetrator. Could you specify the exact model or size of the WetLink Penetrator used? This information is crucial for ensuring compatibility with our existing setup and for any potential replacements.

Hi @HudsonLe -
Happy to help.

  1. @BlueLink_JC may be able to provide further detail on where the “origin” of the scanning plane is. I would guess that it is the screw that your red arrow points towards, near the front of the device.
  2. The external cable length is what you likely care about - the ~meter long section of cable between the sonar and the WetLink penetrator that enters your vehicle. The other internal wires are to connect to ethernet and power. I’m not sure what’s confusing about the external vs. internal?
  3. That information is located on the product page, in the Technical details section:

If accurate information about the center of the beam projection is available, please update it. Thanks

The ECHO sonar ships directly from us with a 2m subsea cable (unterminated).

If the ECHO is purchased through the Blue Robotics website, the cable is 950 ±50 mm with a Wetlink penetrator installed on the end. Then the internal leads beyond the Wetlink penetrator are 120 ±20 mm for data & 125 ±20 mm for power.

Please see image below for the acoustic origin of the ECHO

Thank you. I got it!
