Cheap small pools to test ROVs

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a cheap small pool that I can use to test an ROV inside of my team’s lab space. Ideally it would be a pool between 4-3 feet in diameter and at least 3 ft deep.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Many of the things I have seen have been farming water containers, but I cannot seem to find them when I look online.

Hi Ryan,

Sounds like you’re looking for an “IBC Tank”. I’ve seen them used sell for $25 on Craigslist or local farming supply stores.

You might also look at stock tanks. Not as deep, but won’t need the top cut off.

They have a lot of options and they are very affordable.

You can usually find used “IBC” tanks (like these: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/utms-275-gal-intermediate-bulk-container ) for cheap anywhere you might find farm supplies. Our local Ace Hardware sells them for $25. Remove the top of the frame and cut the top of the plastic and you’re done.
