I recently bought a 360 camera, and have found it to not only be great for the clients, but also great to capture footage of the ROV in-water, while it is working away.
I have been using a DWE Explore3D for the past couple of months, as well as the DWE aquaLUX MAX strobes. With this kit I decided to return to a site I have scanned, as a diver with DSLR, as a diver with mirrorless, and by ROV with my cheap consumer homemade photogrammetry kits. The wreck site is circa 1574, that was discovered in the Princess Channel - part of the Thames estuary - during dredging operations. In 2004 the wreck was raised and put into in-water storage. Funding for this storage ceased, so a new home was sought - eventually the wreck found a new home at an in-land dive centre called Stoney Cove.
For the scan I decided to mount the 360 camera to see in post, how the ROV was in the water, also to see light coverage from the strobes - for a bit of fun, I also thought about putting together a video to show the process, both topside and in-water.
This is a little more up-beat than the ‘normal’ ROV or dive videos out there.
