Need help getting the dji osmo action 4 to work with rov

I am trying to set up a rov to use the dji osmo action 4 to work with blueos and cockpit but I need help to get everything to work (I am very new to all this). I just got a navigator/ raspberry pi 4b to use for my rov. The camera seems to only output mjpeg but that doesn’t work with cockpit (to all of my knowledge atleast). On blueos I do see a feed of the camera though, through udp. Does anyone know how I would be able to make all this work to be able to see a stream on my computer or cockpit?

Hi @Lincoln -

That camera is quite a nice piece of kit, but the video stream it outputs is between 30 Mbps and 60 Mbps! This completely saturates, if not overwhelms, a typical Fathom-X tether interface link. That’s if mjpeg was even an option, you correctly note that it is not suported, even if the bandwidth consumption was manageable…

You’ll want a camera with H264 or H265 output, typical a 10 Mbps stream at 1080p is more than adequate! If you’re after a gimbal camera like this, the insta360 link webcam supports this (and 4k! ) I really wish DJI and Insta360 cameras output video in more friendly formats, although it’s cool the action 4 supports UVC at all. You could likely still accomplish things like still image capture for photogrammetry with this setup, and use another camera for the pilot live-stream?
It’s worth noting that most of the action cameras may have a better picture, but pretty poor low light performance compared with the Blue ROV2’s standard low-light USB camera…which will make its upcomig repacement even more impressive!
