Arm/Disarm through Cockpit

Operating the bottom tab Arm/Disarm button with mouse/pointer I feel could do with a little modification. I would imagine that most - if not all operators - primarily use the joystick controller for arming and disarming the ROV., and the on-screen slider during bench testing, and in the event of joystick controller malfunction.

Currently the process is the same to arm or disarm the vehicle: Click button → drag slider.

This I think is great for the arm sequence, as it is a very deliberate sequence, with the slider effectively acting like a “are you sure? are you really sure?..” function.

For the dis-arm though, should this not be more of an ‘emergency stop’? I have resorted to using the on-screen dis-arm when things have gone haywire, and feel the slider is a little too precise to use, when the smelly stuff hits the fan, in bright sunlight unable to properly see the screen, with wet fingers, with poor dexterity, etc. I am not suggesting that a single push/click of the button should be the option, as this leads to many potential complications in the world of track pads and touch screens, however could the dis-arm slider be replaced with another clickable button? This would make the process: Click ‘disarm’ button → second disarm button appears → click second disarm button.

Hey Marcus!

Makes sense!

One thing that can help right now is to add your own Disarm button to the interface with Cockpit’s Button input widget. You can make it big, easy to see, and put it wherever you like.

How to set it up

  1. Open the main menu and enter Edit Interface mode.
  2. Click on “Input” to see the input widgets
  3. Add a Button input widget to your view and move it where you want it.
    • Optional: if you want to group it with other controls, you can put it inside a Custom Widget Base container.
  4. Open the button’s settings (the gear/config icon) and:
    • Set the label to something clear, like DISARM.
    • Under Action, pick Mavlink Disarm from the Cockpit actions.
  5. Leave edit mode and test it to see it’s working correctly

Hi @3dMB -
I simply turn off the slide to confirm functionality, so I can one click arm/disarm. The slide to confirm for both is more important for aerial drones! You can find the checkbox to do this under menu / mission configuration.. This is a lot easier than setting up a custom button as @rafael.lehmkuhl suggested, but makes the change for both arm and disarm.

Edit: I didn’t even realize you could uncheck the confirmations! I thought it was all or nothing - nice feature!

Definitely!

I forgot the arm and disarm confirmation were separate! Nice catch!
